Precision and Adaptability: The Cornerstones of Prasidh's Return

Mumbai: Being a fast bowler presents significant challenges, particularly due to the frequent injuries that accompany this career path. Prasidh Krishna has certainly faced his fair share of these obstacles. His journey with the Indian team has been consistently hindered by injuries, and he missed the last two seasons of the IPL due to a stress fracture in his back in 2022 and a quadriceps injury in 2024.

In light of these difficulties, his strong comeback in the tournament is commendable. After a hiatus since 2022, during which he had an impressive season with 19 wickets in 17 matches for the Rajasthan Royals, he has made a remarkable start with his new team, the Gujarat Titans, already claiming 14 wickets in just seven games.

Although he began the tournament on a high note, the true test awaited him on Saturday against the Delhi Capitals, who were performing exceptionally well this season and held the top position with 10 points prior to their match against GT.

Compounding the challenge was the pitch at the Narendra Modi Stadium, which was highly conducive to batting, leaving little room for error. GT faced immediate pressure when their leading bowler, Mohammed Siraj, conceded 16 and 17 runs in the first and third overs, respectively, as DC’s KL Rahul and Karun Nair aggressively targeted the bowlers, forcing them into mistakes.

Bowling under the intense afternoon heat of Ahmedabad, Prasidh delivered his finest performance in the most challenging conditions. Amid the chaos of the powerplay, he bowled an exceptional fourth over, yielding only 7 runs while also taking a wicket. The 29-year-old from Bengaluru finished with a four-wicket haul, significantly contributing to his team's efforts by limiting DC to a total of 203, which was approximately 15 runs short of what they needed. GT successfully chased down the target with four balls remaining.

Among the notable wickets taken by Prasidh were those of key players Rahul, Nair, and captain Axar Patel.

Rahul, who was in excellent form, was skillfully set up by Prasidh, who employed a strategy of bouncers followed by a perfectly executed yorker that proved to be a stunning dismissal of his senior teammate from Karnataka.

Purple Cap holder

The performance helped the GT bowler currently lead the wicket-takers’ list in the tournament. There’s no question about Prasidh’s being deserving of the Purple Cap. After a wicketless outing in his season-opener against Punjab Kings where he went for 41 runs, he has picked up at least one wicket in every game.

More importantly, he is enjoying bowling at GT’s home ground, the Narendra Modi Stadium, having picked 3/24 there in the last game versus his former team Rajasthan Royals. Earlier he had a brilliant outing against Mumbai Indians where he picked the big scalps of Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav for figures of 2/18 in four overs versus Mumbai Indians.

Prasidh has played a key role in GT winning three of their four home games. With three more games to go at the Motera, he looks primed to help GT carry forward the momentum, the team having already registered 10 points at the half-way mark.
