Phil Salt in Splits as RCB Star Vows to End Rough Patch at Chinnaswamy: ‘It’s About Time

Royal Challengers Bengaluru have maintained an unbeaten record in their away matches this season; however, their performance at home remains a significant concern. RCB, in pursuit of their first IPL title, has demonstrated a well-rounded team thus far, evident in their record of four victories out of six matches. Nevertheless, they have yet to secure a win on their home turf, suffering defeats against Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. While other franchises strive to establish their home grounds as strongholds, RCB continues to face challenges in Bengaluru. The outcome of the toss often plays a crucial role at Chinnaswamy, as teams frequently opt to bowl first due to the short boundaries, making any target difficult to defend. Unfortunately, RCB has lost both of their home matches this season while batting first.
Following a decisive 9-wicket victory over RCB, Devdutt Padikkal engaged in a conversation with Phil Salt on camera, where the left-handed batsman expressed the need for RCB to start winning at home, leaving the Englishman amused.
“Achieving four wins away from home feels fantastic. We hope to replicate this success at home as well. Honestly, it’s about time we made some progress there too,” Padikkal remarked during his discussion with Phil Salt after the match.
“We are actually playing some good cricket. I think in time we will win there as well,” Padikkal further added.
“Don’t think that we have done badly at home”: Phil Salt
Salt echoed Padikkal's sentiments, emphasizing that the team trains more rigorously than any other at Chinnaswamy, and it is time to provide the fans with a reason to celebrate.
“It’s only a matter of time. I believe we haven’t performed poorly there. We train and play at Chinnaswamy more than anyone else—it’s just a matter of time before we get it right and give our fans something to cheer for,” Phil Salt remarked following the match.
In the meantime, Salt played a crucial role in RCB's pursuit of 174 runs, scoring 65 runs off 33 balls. His fellow opener, Virat Kohli, contributed significantly with 62 runs, effectively leading the chase. Salt reached his fifty in just 28 balls and formed a partnership of 92 runs with Kohli before being dismissed by spinner Kumar Kartikeya, caught by Yashasvi Jaiswal at midwicket. Kohli then partnered with left-handed Devdutt Padikkal, who scored 40 runs, to complete the chase with 15 balls remaining.
