Pep Guardiola's Surprising Future Plans: No More Club Management After Manchester City
7 days ago | 5 Views
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has made a surprising announcement, stating that he will not take on the management of any football club following his tenure with the Premier League team. Guardiola, who has elevated City to remarkable success in recent years, is frequently hailed as one of the greatest managers in the annals of club football. He began his managerial journey with his boyhood club, FC Barcelona, where he achieved unprecedented success alongside stars such as Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta, and Xavi. After a brief hiatus, he joined Bayern Munich, where he dominated the Bundesliga.
His tenure at Manchester City has transformed English football, leading the club to six Premier League titles, including an impressive four consecutive championships achieved last season.
However, this season has not been as favourable for Guardiola and City, as recent performances have seen them drop to fourth place in the league standings. The Spanish manager has exhibited signs of frustration during post-match interviews following defeats, and in a recent podcast with Marbella-born chef Dani Garcia on his Desmontadito YouTube channel, he expressed his sentiments:
“I want to leave it and go and play golf but I can’t,” Guardiola stated, as reported by The Mirror. “A time will come when I feel it’s enough and I’ll stop then.”
The 53-year-old has asserted that he will not manage any other club after his contract with City concludes.
“I’m not going to manage another team,” Guardiola added. “I’m not discussing the long-term future, but I will not leave Manchester City to go to another country to do the same thing I am doing now.”
He recently signed a two-year contract extension with City, aiming to further enhance his record-breaking tenure. This new agreement will extend his time as City manager to a total of 11 seasons.
Guardiola has indicated that he remains open to the possibility of managing a national team in the future.
He elaborated, “I currently lack the energy for such a role. I am focused on my present responsibilities. However, the idea of starting anew, with all the associated training processes, is not appealing to me. A national team position might be different.
“I believe it is important to take a step back, much like chefs who travel to other countries, to reflect on our successes and areas for improvement. When one is occupied continuously, there is little opportunity for such reflection. I think taking a break would be beneficial for me.”
