16 days ago | 5 Views
Rajat Patidar and Jitesh Sharma showcased their exceptional power-hitting skills, playing pivotal roles for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their quest for a total exceeding 200 runs on Monday. As they arrived at Wankhede Stadium to compete against the Mumbai Indians, RCB had a singular focus: to challenge the opposing bowlers.
Although opener Phil Salt was dismissed for just 4 runs in the first over, RCB remained unfazed. Former captain Virat Kohli initiated the aggressive batting alongside new partner Devdutt Padikkal.
Kohli took on renowned bowlers such as Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult with remarkable aggression, while Padikkal contributed significantly with a score of 37 runs off 22 balls. Kohli struck eight boundaries and two sixes, accumulating a total of 67 runs from 42 deliveries.
In the final overs, Rajat Patidar and Jitesh Sharma maintained the momentum for RCB, effortlessly dispatching the bowlers. The 17th over proved particularly costly, yielding 23 runs, during which Patidar hit two sixes and two fours, reaching his half-century in the process.
On the second ball of that over, Patidar received a full delivery from Hardik Pandya and sent it soaring over the bowler's head for a six, marking his half-century. He followed this with consecutive sixes, pulling Hardik square on the leg side. The onslaught continued as Pandya was hit for a four on the next delivery, followed by a wide. After the wide, Pandya managed to secure a single, but was soon punished again with another four.
50-run partnership, only off 17 balls
The duo achieved their 50-run partnership in the subsequent over, accomplishing this feat in just 17 balls. Patidar was ultimately dismissed by Trent Boult on the last delivery of the 19th over, during which Jitesh also struck Boult for two impressive sixes. In the final over, Jitesh faced Bumrah and, on the fifth ball, launched an 83-meter six over wide long-on.
In a tense moment on the last ball, Jitesh nearly got out. He faced a yorker from Bumrah and attempted to glance it towards the leg side but missed. The ball struck his boot, with the impact occurring outside off. The umpire ruled him out lbw, but after reviewing the decision, it was confirmed that there was no bat involved, allowing RCB to finish with a score of 221/5 in 20 overs.
