Pat Cummins, Daniel Vettori Question Nitish Kumar Reddy's IPL 2025 Move: 'Injury Concerns?'

Nitish Kumar Reddy's impressive all-round performance for SunRisers Hyderabad last season led to his selection for the national team, and he even secured a spot in the playing XI for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. However, the 21-year-old has yet to bowl a single over in the current IPL 2025 season, prompting criticism from former South African fast bowler Dale Steyn.

Steyn has publicly questioned SunRisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins and the team's management for not allowing Reddy to bowl. He expressed his belief that the young player possesses exceptional bowling talent, making it perplexing that he has not been utilized in this capacity.

Steyn's remarks were made during the IPL 2025 match between SunRisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium on Thursday, which resulted in a six-wicket loss for Cummins and his team.

On social media platform X, Steyn commented, "Have SRH just forgotten that Reddy can bowl…? He has a bit of a golden arm, definitely worth an over or two."

It must be mentioned that Nitish Kumar Reddy came into the IPL after recovering from a side strain. This injury had earlier ruled him out of the T20I series against England.

Steyn also said that Nitish Reddy is batting extremely fine, so it looks unlikely that he is still carrying an injury.

"If he’s injured, then it’s understandable, but he seems to be batting just fine, so," he wrote.

How has Nitish Reddy performed with bat?

Nitish Kumar Reddy has struggled to find his form with the bat in the ongoing IPL 2025 season, accumulating only 131 runs in seven matches, resulting in an average of 21.83 and a strike rate of 113.91.

He has consistently batted in the No. 4 position, ahead of players like Heinrich Klaasen and Aniket Verma. However, the right-handed batsman has not been able to establish himself in this role, often falling short of expectations by not delivering substantial scores.

Currently, SunRisers Hyderabad occupies the ninth position in the IPL 2025 standings, with just 4 points from 7 matches. Their next challenge will be against the Mumbai Indians at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Wednesday, April 23.

Having lost five out of their seven matches, SunRisers must secure victories in at least five of their remaining games to keep their playoff hopes alive.
