Hardik Pandya has faced significant challenges throughout his IPL career, yet former Mumbai Indians coach Mark Boucher asserts that the all-rounder has emerged from these difficulties more resilient than ever. As the 2025 IPL season approaches, Pandya is poised for a new beginning following a challenging previous season that tested his fortitude in numerous ways.

The 2024 season was particularly disappointing for the Mumbai Indians, with Hardik taking over the captaincy from Rohit Sharma—a decision that sparked discontent among MI supporters. Each time he stepped onto the field at Wankhede, he was met with loud boos, a hostile atmosphere that intensified the pressure of leading one of the IPL's most successful franchises.

The team's performance did not alleviate the situation, as Mumbai finished at the bottom of the points table.

However, circumstances have shifted since then. Hardik played a pivotal role in India's victorious T20 World Cup and Champions Trophy campaigns, reaffirming his status as one of the most valuable all-rounders in cricket.

Boucher, who coached the team last season, is convinced that the challenges of the past year have only fortified Hardik’s character.

“Last season was incredibly tough for him. He faced boos from the crowd every time he played, and he deserves much better—he deserves complete respect,” Boucher remarked as a JioStar expert.

“No player wants to experience such treatment. Nevertheless, he is a resilient individual.”

Having observed the all-rounder closely, the former South African wicketkeeper believes that the adversity has only enhanced his strength.

“He is a seasoned cricketer. He has navigated through difficult times, injuries, and fluctuations in form, yet he has triumphed over all obstacles. Great cricketers must possess toughness, and he has demonstrated that” Boucher continued. “The IPL is enriched by Hardik's presence, and the game of cricket benefits from having him on the field.”

Pandya received commendation from former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh, who praised his confidence and fearless demeanour.

“Pandya is an exceptionally confident player and a very positive individual. His immense self-belief enables him to achieve anything, setting him apart from his peers,” Harbhajan remarked. “It is truly encouraging to witness his development following a challenging previous year. His circumstances have transformed. He played a crucial role in India securing two ICC trophies. This year, he is poised to perform at his peak. The setbacks of the past are behind him; it is a new beginning for him.”
