Pakistan's Mohammad Amir Steps Away from International Cricket Again

3 months ago | 5 Views

Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir announced his retirement from international cricket on Saturday. The 32-year-old made this decision just a day after all-rounder Imad Wasim declared that he would no longer participate in international matches. Both players represented Pakistan in the recent T20 World Cup held in the USA and West Indies.

Since his international debut in June 2009, Amir has played in 36 Test matches, 61 One Day Internationals (ODIs), and 62 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) for Pakistan. He has taken a total of 271 international wickets and scored 1,179 runs across all formats. Amir is particularly remembered for his outstanding performance in the 2017 Champions Trophy final against India, where he achieved remarkable bowling figures of 3 wickets for 16 runs.

During that crucial match against India, Amir claimed the significant wickets of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Shikhar Dhawan.

Although Amir had previously announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket in 2021, he later reversed that decision and made himself available for this year's T20 World Cup.

“It has been a great honour to play for Pakistan across all three formats. I know this is a difficult decision, but I feel this is the right time for the next generation to take the baton and elevate Pakistan cricket to new heights," Amir stated in an official release from the Pakistan Cricket Board.

He further expressed his gratitude, saying, “I would like to thank the PCB for always extending the much-needed support over the years and I look forward to watching the team excel. I would also like to thank Pakistan fans for always supporting me throughout my career."

Imad Wasim announces his retirement from international cricket

Imad, aged 35, made his international debut in May 2015 during a home match against Zimbabwe. Since then, he has represented Pakistan in 55 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 75 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).

Throughout his international career, he has achieved a total of 117 wickets and accumulated 1,540 runs over the course of 130 matches.

“It has been an incredible journey to represent my country and realize a significant dream. I extend my gratitude to the fans for their unwavering support for both me and the team throughout these years,” he remarked.

“I also wish to express my appreciation to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for their continuous support at every stage. I wish the national team great success and look forward to supporting Pakistan cricket from the sidelines,” Imad further stated.

Both Imad Wasim and Mohammad Amir are anticipated to remain active participants in T20 leagues around the globe.
