In preparation for the forthcoming season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), the Karachi Kings have dismissed Shan Masood, the captain of the Pakistan Test team, from his leadership role. David Warner has been appointed as the new captain of the franchise. The 10th season of the PSL is set to commence on April 11.

Warner was selected as the first pick by the Karachi Kings during the PSL Players Draft 2025, which took place in Lahore on January 13, 2025. Prior to this, he remained unsold in the 2025 mega auction of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The franchise expressed gratitude to Shan Masood for his significant contributions as captain last season, which played a crucial role in transforming the team.

Masood's leadership in the previous edition of the tournament established a solid foundation for a rejuvenated Karachi Kings squad, combining both youthful talent and seasoned players.

"We are excited to welcome David Warner to the Karachi Kings family as our new captain. His proven leadership skills and ability to win matches align seamlessly with our aspirations for PSL 10. Simultaneously, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Shan Masood for his outstanding contributions last season," stated Salman Iqbal in an official announcement.

"His efforts were essential in laying a strong groundwork, and we anticipate his continued impact as a vital player in the team," he added.

PSL begins April 11

The 10th edition of the T20 tournament is scheduled to begin on Friday, April 11. The Karachi Kings will kick off their season on Saturday, April 12, at their home venue, the National Bank Stadium in Karachi, where they will compete against the Multan Sultans.

Recently, Warner guided the Sydney Thunder to the final of the 2024-25 Big Bash League (BBL). His captaincy ban was lifted last year, following a previous suspension related to the notorious Sandpaper Gate incident during the Cape Town Test against South Africa in 2018.

It remains to be seen if Warner can effectively lead the Karachi Kings this season, as the team has failed to reach the playoffs for the past three years.

Since claiming the PSL title in 2020, the team has struggled to achieve similar success.
