Pakistan Criticized for "Shameless" Celebration After Bavuma's Run-Out; Rizwan Warned
29 days ago | 5 Views
South Africa's Temba Bavuma found himself in a tough spot after a messy mix-up led to his wicket, as the team managed to score 352 runs for five wickets. The highlight of the dismissal was Pakistan's intense celebration, which made Bavuma pause on his way back to the dressing room. This exuberance even got Pakistan's captain, Mohammad Rizwan, a warning from the umpires.
The incident took place during the 29th over of the final ODI tri-series match at Karachi's National Stadium. Bavuma, who was on 82, played a good length delivery from Mohammad Hasnain towards backward point and immediately called for a single. Matthew Breetzke initially responded but then hesitated at the last second, leaving Bavuma caught in the middle of the pitch.
Saud Shakeel picked up the ball and made a direct throw to the striker's end, and Bavuma was nowhere near making it back, resulting in South Africa losing their second wicket and ending a solid 119-run partnership.
The Pakistan players were ecstatic after the wicket, with Kamran Ghulam running in front of Bavuma to celebrate, joined by Shakeel and Salman Agha. Their wild celebration forced Bavuma to halt his return to the pavilion until the players finally cleared a path. The umpires weren't pleased with the display and called Rizwan over for a lengthy discussion.
The celebration was lambasted by fans on social media, who labelled it as ‘shameless, pathetic’ act.
South Africa has set a target of 353 runs
Pakistan's bowling struggles during the death overs were on full display again on Wednesday. They gave up 123 runs in the last 10 overs against New Zealand in their opening match and then allowed 110 runs against the Proteas, who really showcased their batting skills.
Captain Bavuma kicked things off with a solid fifty-run partnership with Tony de Zorzi, and then they built a century partnership with Breetzke. South Africa continued the momentum with another hundred-run partnership for the third wicket between Breetzke and Heinrich Klaasen, both of whom scored in the 80s, leading South Africa to a total of 352 for five.
