Pakistan Cricket Board Cuts Match Fees, Reduces Facilities Amid Financial Strains

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is making some significant cuts to match fees for domestic players and scaling back on facilities. This comes right after they invested billions in upgrading stadiums in Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi for the 2025 Champions Trophy.

According to a report from PTI, the PCB has slashed the match fees for players in the upcoming National T20 Championship from 100,000 Pakistani rupees to just 10,000 per match, while reserve players will earn 5,000. The tournament kicks off on March 14. Sources say that Abdullah Khurrum Niazi, who heads domestic cricket at the PCB, has been cutting back on amenities for players over the past few months.

Players who used to stay in four- and five-star hotels are now being offered much cheaper accommodations. They've also seen a reduction in air travel options along with their fees, as noted by a source.

On top of that, players and umpires are still waiting for payments from last season. The board hasn't raised the annual pension for former Test cricketers, which is supposed to happen according to their policy. Meanwhile, the board's administrators are still pulling in hefty salaries.

National selectors and mentors for the recently wrapped-up Champions Cup, like Misbah ul Haq, Waqar Younis, Shoaib Malik, Sarfaraz Ahmed, and Saqlain Mushtaq, are reportedly on two-year contracts, each earning around 5 million rupees a month.

In other news, the PCB is still looking for a “formal clarification” from the ICC regarding the absence of their representative at the closing ceremony of the Champions Trophy in Dubai. A PCB official mentioned on Tuesday that they’ve lodged a formal complaint, calling the situation unacceptable.
