Pakistan Cricket Board Criticized: 'Even a Vendor Knows Better' Amid Team's Struggles
7 days ago | 5 Views
Things are looking bleak for Pakistan. After a disappointing exit from the ICC Men's Champions Trophy 2025 group stage, Mohammad Rizwan and his team faced a clean sweep in the three-match ODI series against New Zealand. To make matters worse, the young squad also lost 1-4 in the five-match T20I series against the Blackcaps. Former Pakistan player Basit Ali has criticized the selection committee and head coach Aaqib Javed, urging them to resign due to the team's poor performance.
Pakistan hosted the Champions Trophy, and the management faced backlash for selecting only one main spinner, Abrar Ahmad. Many experts highlighted the poor choices made for such a significant tournament.
Basit Ali believes that if the current selection committee and head coach remain in charge, Pakistan is likely to struggle in the upcoming series against Bangladesh. He bluntly stated that even a tomato vendor has more knowledge than those currently leading Pakistan's management and coaching staff.
“The selection committee should step down. They clearly don’t know how to build a team. From the Champions Trophy to now, it’s been a disaster. Even a tomato seller understands better than you. They were questioning why you didn’t include more spinners in the Champions Trophy,” Basit Ali expressed on his YouTube channel.
"Aaqib Javed needs to go. If you stick around for another four months, you’ll end up losing to Bangladesh too," he added.
Set up the PSL in a T10 format
Basit Ali has called on the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mohsin Naqvi, to look into the current situation and consider hosting the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in a T10 format. The former Pakistan batsman thinks that playing in T10 could enhance the power-hitting skills of players like Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam.
Previously, Pakistan faced elimination from the ICC Men's Champions Trophy after suffering defeats in group-stage matches against New Zealand and India. Their final group match against Bangladesh was called off due to rain in Rawalpindi.
Former Pakistan fast bowler Sikander Bakht has suggested that the PCB should revoke the central contracts of the current players, proposing that they should only be reinstated if the team secures victory in the Asia Cup or a World Cup.
Pakistan's defeat to New Zealand in the white-ball series is particularly concerning, especially since the Kiwis fielded a less-than-full-strength squad due to many players being occupied with Indian Premier League (IPL) commitments.
