Pakistan Cricket Board Accuses Ex-Coach Gillespie of Violating Agreement

22 days ago | 5 Views

The Pakistan Cricket Board issued a statement in response to former coach Jason Gillespie's assertion regarding unpaid dues following his resignation several months ago. In April 2024, the PCB appointed Gillespie and South African Gary Kirsten as head coaches for red-ball and white-ball formats, respectively, under two-year contracts. However, the performance of the Pakistan cricket team did not meet expectations, leading the board to retract much of the authority initially granted to them. This situation escalated, resulting in both coaches resigning six months later.

Since stepping down, Gillespie has frequently criticized the PCB for its management and decision-making. He recently mentioned that he is still awaiting payment from the board.

In contrast, the PCB has denied these allegations, asserting that Gillespie violated the terms of his contract by failing to provide the required four-month notice before his departure.

“The Pakistan Cricket Board denies the claims made by a former head coach regarding the non-payment of his dues,” the PCB stated.

“A spokesperson for the PCB noted that the former head coach left his role abruptly without adhering to the four-month notice period, constituting a clear violation of the contract terms. The coaching agreement explicitly outlined a notice period applicable to both parties, which the coach was fully aware of,” the statement continued.

Recently, Gillespie participated in an interview with a local news organization in Pakistan, expressing his disappointment regarding the lack of payment for his role as the red-ball coach.

"Without delving into specifics, I am still awaiting some compensation for the work I have completed. I will address this matter in due time. It has been somewhat disappointing, but I remain hopeful that it will be resolved soon. So, yes, I am optimistic that this will be sorted out as quickly as possible," he stated.

In the meantime, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the opening of applications for the roles of head coach of the national team and director of its high-performance center in Lahore on its official website. The deadline for interested applicants to submit their applications for the head coach position is set for May 5.
