India, March 17 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently participated in a podcast with renowned American YouTuber and AI researcher Lex Fridman. During the discussion, Modi was posed a variety of questions, including one that piqued the interest of football enthusiasts. He was asked to select the greatest football player of all time from a list that included Diego Maradona, Pele, Lionel Messi, and Cristiano Ronaldo.
To the astonishment of many, Modi demonstrated his preparedness for the football-related inquiry, revealing his substantial knowledge of the sport.
"In the 1980s, Maradona was a standout figure. For that era, he was regarded as a genuine hero, and if you ask the current generation, they will likely mention Messi," he remarked.
Diego Maradona, an Argentine footballer and manager, is celebrated as one of the greatest players in history. He was a co-recipient of the FIFA Player of the 20th Century award, sharing the honor with Pele.
Maradona passed away on November 25, 2020, at the age of 60, leaving the world in a state of profound grief. He participated in four FIFA World Cups, notably leading Argentina to victory over West Germany in the 1986 final, where he was awarded the Golden Ball for being the tournament's best player.
During that tournament, he created unforgettable moments that have become part of football lore. In the quarter-finals, he scored both goals in a 2-1 victory against England. The first goal, which was scored using his hand, went unnoticed by the referee and has since been referred to as the 'Hand of God.' His second goal featured a remarkable 60-meter run, during which he dribbled past five English players to score, an achievement that was later voted as the Goal of the Century by FIFA in 2002.
Lionel Messi is widely regarded as the successor to Maradona. From a young age, he was referred to as the Next Maradona and even replicated a similar goal during a La Liga match. Presently, he plays for Inter Miami in Major League Soccer and played a pivotal role in leading Argentina to victory in the 2022 FIFA World Cup held in Qatar. Additionally, he has secured two Copa America titles and an Olympic gold medal.
