India's U19 women's cricket team proved their prowess once again by securing their second straight T20 World Cup title with a convincing nine-wicket victory over South Africa. The final match at Bayuemas Oval showcased the defending champions' dominance from the get-go, solidifying their status as the top youth team in the world.
South Africa struggled with their batting, crumbling under the pressure of India's fierce bowling attack and managing to score only 82 runs. The Indian bowlers were on fire, each playing a key role in dismantling South Africa's lineup. With precise bowling, clever variations, and outstanding fielding, India maintained control throughout the first innings.
After the impressive win, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to his official X (formerly Twitter) account to praise the team.
“I’m incredibly proud of our Nari Shakti! Congratulations to the Indian team for winning the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025. This victory reflects our strong teamwork, determination, and resilience. It will motivate many future athletes. Wishing the team all the best in their upcoming challenges,” PM Modi shared.
An impressive showing
The chase felt like a walk in the park for the Indian team as they confidently approached their target. The openers got off to a flying start, racking up 18 runs in just the first two overs.
Even though they lost G Kamalin briefly, the momentum didn’t falter. Gongadi Trisha, in fantastic form, anchored the innings and ended up not out at 44. Sanika Chalke chipped in nicely with an unbeaten 26, helping India cruise to victory with over eight overs left.
The Indian squad erupted in celebration, a stark contrast to the South African team, who were left devastated. Gongadi Trisha earned the titles of Player of the Match and Player of the Series, wrapping up the tournament with an impressive 309 runs and seven wickets, playing a key role in India’s remarkable win.
