PCB Slams ICC Over Anthem Mishap in AUS vs ENG Clash
27 days ago | 5 Views
The opening week of the Champions Trophy commenced with considerable excitement, yet it was marred by several mishaps that have put the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the International Cricket Council (ICC) at odds. Following a complaint from the PCB regarding a broadcasting error during India's inaugural match against Bangladesh in Dubai, the situation escalated when the Indian national anthem was mistakenly played for a brief moment at the beginning of the Australia-England match in Lahore.
As the teams assembled at Gaddafi Stadium for their Champions Trophy opener, the Indian anthem was erroneously played instead of "God Save the King/Queen," which left the audience astonished and the PCB frustrated.
A report from PTI indicated that a source affiliated with the ICC disclosed that the PCB has formally requested an explanation regarding the incident. "The PCB has emphasized that the ICC must provide clarification, as their personnel are responsible for managing the national anthem playlist for the teams participating in the Champions Trophy. Given that India is not competing in Pakistan, it is perplexing how their anthem was mistakenly included in the playlist," the source stated.
It is important to note that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) declined to send the Indian team to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy due to a lack of clearance from the Indian government. Consequently, after extensive discussions with the PCB, Dubai was selected as the venue for all of India's matches.
ICC accepts mistake on broadcast blunder
The ICC has acknowledged the error regarding the broadcast issue. Previously, the PCB had addressed the ICC concerning the absence of its logo on television screens during India's match against Bangladesh in Dubai. According to a report by Cricbuzz, the broadcast footage from the Champions Trophy matches displayed a three-line branding indicating 'Pakistan' as the host nation, but this was notably absent during the India match.
ICC initially indicated that the graphic was somewhat lengthy and contained a smaller logo. However, it later acknowledged the mistake and consented to utilize the original design for all matches.
