PCB Responds to Missing Indian Flag in Karachi, Points Finger at ICC for No Tri-Colour Ahead of Champions Trophy

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has issued a clarification following the backlash regarding the absence of the Indian flag at the National Stadium in Karachi, just days before the Champions Trophy 2025. A video circulated on social media on Sunday, displaying the flags of all participating nations except for India, which was notably absent from the stadium's roof.

It is pertinent to mention that India will be hosting its ICC Men's Champions Trophy 2025 matches in Dubai, as the team was unable to secure permission from the relevant authorities to cross the border. This situation led many to speculate that the PCB's actions were a form of retaliation.

Nevertheless, the PCB has informed that the decision was made by the International Cricket Council (ICC), which has stipulated that only four flags will be displayed on match days.

Consequently, it is unlikely that India's flag will be visible at any of the three venues in Pakistan, as Rohit Sharma and his team are not scheduled to play in Karachi, Lahore, or Rawalpindi.

"The ICC has instructed that only four flags will be displayed on Champions Trophy 2025 match days - those of the ICC (Event Authority), PCB (Event Host), and the two competing teams for that day. It is straightforward," the PCB stated.

India and Pakistan to square off on February 23

India, Pakistan, New Zealand, and Bangladesh have been assigned to Group A for the Champions Trophy. The tournament is set to commence on February 19, featuring the inaugural match between Pakistan and New Zealand.

India will begin its journey against Bangladesh on February 20 at the Dubai International Stadium. A highly anticipated encounter between arch-rivals India and Pakistan is scheduled for February 23 in Dubai.

Group B, often referred to as the group of death, includes England, Australia, South Africa, and Afghanistan. The final of the tournament will take place on March 9, with the semi-finals occurring on March 4 and 5.

On February 22, one of cricket's most iconic rivalries will unfold as Australia faces England in Lahore.

"We are delighted that an agreement has been established based on the principles of equality and respect, reflecting the spirit of cooperation and collaboration that characterizes our sport," stated PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi in an official announcement.

“Our sincere appreciation extends to the ICC members who contributed constructively to help us reach a mutually advantageous resolution. Their efforts have been crucial in advancing the interests of international cricket," he further remarked.
