PBKS vs LSG: X War Erupts After Rishabh Pant’s Dig & Digvesh Singh’s Controversy!

The matchup between Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants is poised to evolve into a fierce rivalry within the IPL. The upcoming LSG vs PBKS game at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Tuesday may serve as the inaugural chapter of this rivalry. Following Punjab's comprehensive victory over the hosts by eight wickets, PBKS's social media account intensified the rivalry by targeting LSG, particularly in response to spinner Digvesh Singh Rathi's unnecessary send-off to PBKS opener Priyansh Arya. This pointed commentary was largely fueled by remarks made by LSG captain Rishabh Pant in the lead-up to IPL 2025.
After being released by Delhi Capitals, Pant, a highly coveted player in the mega auction, was acquired by LSG for a staggering ₹27 crore. Shortly after the auction, Pant revealed that he had only one concern while observing the bidding process, which was related to Punjab Kings, indicating his preference to avoid joining PBKS. "Deep within, I only had one tension that was regarding Punjab," Pant stated during an interview alongside LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka when discussing the auction.
PBKS capitalized on Pant's mention of "tension" by crafting several posts during and after the match. Their initial post was made just before the match commenced and continued to flow after Glenn Maxwell dismissed Pant for just 2 runs.
Pant was not the sole focus of PBKS's commentary. The franchise's X account also expressed disapproval of Digvesh's notebook-style send-off to Priyansh, reminiscent of Kesrick Williams.
They shared a collage speculating on what Digvesh might have been jotting down in his fictional notebook after dismissing Arya.
The event took place during the third over of PBKS's pursuit of 172 runs, specifically on the fifth delivery, with the score standing at 26/0. Rathi, brought into the bowling attack by captain Rishabh Pant, successfully dismissed his Delhi teammate Priyansh Arya, who had managed to score 8 runs off 9 balls. After hitting a boundary from Rathi's first ball, Arya misjudged a pull shot on a short, faster delivery, resulting in a top-edge that was caught by Shardul Thakur at mid-on.
In a moment of excitement, Rathi approached Arya and imitated the famous "notebook send-off," a celebration made famous by West Indies bowler Kesrick Williams, where he pretended to write Arya's name in an imaginary notebook. This celebration, however, quickly attracted the attention of the umpire, who issued a warning to Rathi, and later drew criticism from Sunil Gavaskar, who questioned its appropriateness. Despite this early wicket, PBKS successfully chased down the target, winning by 8 wickets, with Prabhsimran Singh (69) and Shreyas Iyer (52*) playing pivotal roles. Rathi's actions added a spirited moment to the match.
