Lockie Ferguson is set to miss a significant number of games for PBKS in the ongoing IPL 2025 season due to an injury. The New Zealand fast bowler had to exit the match after just two deliveries against SRH. While the specifics of his injury haven't been disclosed, he was seen clutching his left thigh as he made his way to the dugout.
Ahead of PBKS’ upcoming match against KKR, fast bowling coach James Hopes mentioned, “Ferguson is out indefinitely, and the chances of having him back by the end of the tournament are quite slim. It seems he’s sustained a pretty serious injury.”
PBKS is likely to bring in either Australian pacer Xavier Bartlett or Afghan Azmatullah Omarzai as Ferguson's replacement. They also have Vijaykumar Vyshak and Yash Thakur available as options.
The 33-year-old pacer was also sidelined during New Zealand’s Champions Trophy 2025 due to a hamstring issue. This season, Ferguson has taken five wickets in four matches and has been a crucial part of the team's strategy.
Regarded as one of the fastest bowlers in the world, Ferguson played a key role in New Zealand’s run to the finals in the 2019 World Cup. After the match against SRH, PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer shared his thoughts on Ferguson’s injury, stating, “It was a significant impact. He’s a player who can take wickets quickly, so losing him is a big setback. He consistently bowls at 140, and injuries can happen. We have other bowlers who can step up and help us win, so we can’t make excuses.”
PBKS is currently sitting sixth in the points table for the IPL 2025 season
PBKS is sitting in sixth place on the IPL 2025 points table, having earned six points from five games, with three wins and two losses. They kicked off the season strong under Iyer’s leadership and were at the top of the table early on, but their performance has since declined. In their match against SRH, their struggles in bowling and fielding were evident, and they also let a few catches slip through their fingers.
