Vaibhav Suryavanshi, at just 14 years old, produced a masterclass performance at the Sawai Manshingh Stadium in Jaipur on Monday night, keeping Rajasthan Royals mathematically in the playoff race. Vaibhav achieved a 35-ball century, the fastest ever by an Indian in IPL history, leading Rajasthan to an eight-wicket victory over Gujarat Titans. The magnificence of his innings was encapsulated in a single moment when Rajasthan head coach Rahul Dravid stood up from his wheelchair to celebrate.

For those unfamiliar, Dravid has been using a wheelchair since the season's beginning after injuring his right leg while playing cricket with his sons in Bengaluru. In fact, he didn’t even rise from his wheelchair during post-match handshakes or team practices. However, on Monday, all of that changed.

As Vaibhav hit a six off Rashid Khan in the 11th over to reach the milestone, Dravid leapt from his wheelchair in an ecstatic celebration and applauded the historic innings. He surpassed Yusuf Pathan's 15-year-old record for the fastest IPL century by an Indian, placing him just behind Chris Gayle on the all-time leaderboard. The West Indies icon had scored a century in 30 balls in 2013 for RCB. At 14 years and 32 days old, he also became the youngest player ever to achieve a T20 hundred.

The Vaibvhav Suryavanshi show

TheWunderkind, who gained prominence at 13 last November when the Royals acquired him for INR 1. 1 crore, exhibited devastating power-hitting on Monday against a lineup of experienced international bowlers, including Khan, Mohammed Siraj, Ishant Sharma, and Washington Sundar. He smashed Ishant for three sixes and two fours in a single over and then targeted Sundar for two sixes and a four to achieve the 2025 IPL's quickest half-century off just 17 balls.

Vaibhav surged to 94 when he struck Afghanistan fast bowler Karim Janat for three sixes and three fours and did not hesitate to hit Rashid for a six to reach the century mark.

"It was amazing," Rajasthan captain Riyan Parag remarked about Suryavanshi. "We’ve spent two months with him (and) we have witnessed what he can do, but seeing him perform like this against world-class bowlers. . . (I) can't find the words to express it. "

Vaibhav also formed a 166-run opening partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal, who made an unbeaten 70 off 40, as Rajasthan successfully chased down 210 in 15. 5 overs.
