Novak Djokovic will be missing Serbia's upcoming Davis Cup match against Denmark due to a hamstring injury he sustained during the Australian Open last week. This injury led to his retirement in the semifinal against Alexander Zverev.
After the semifinal, Djokovic explained that he hurt himself during the quarterfinal against Carlos Alcaraz. He mentioned, "I did everything I could to manage the muscle tear I had. By the end of the first set, the pain was just too much for me."
With Djokovic opting out, Serbia will be without their top player for the first-round qualifying tie starting on January 31. The team will now feature Miomir Kecmanovic, Hamad Mededovic, Laslo Dere, and doubles specialists Matej and Ivan Sabanov. Additionally, Dusan Lajovic is also sidelined due to an injury.
Serbia's captain, Viktor Troicki, commented on Djokovic's absence, saying, "Not having Novak is a blow for us, but we're still aiming for a win. The Danes have a strong player in Holger Rune, but I have faith in my team."
Djokovic is gearing up to make his comeback at the French Open
ESPN reports that Djokovic is expected to be sidelined for a few months, meaning he’ll miss the Sunshine Double events at Indian Wells and the Miami Masters. The report also suggests he might make his comeback at the French Open, starting on May 25.
Since winning the US Open in 2023, Djokovic hasn’t claimed another major as he chases that elusive 25th Slam title.
