IPL 2025 is currently embroiled in a fresh controversy as teams have started voicing their concerns regarding the unfavorable pitch conditions at their home venues. KKR has emerged as one of the most vocal critics, engaging in a public dispute with the pitch curator of Eden Gardens, with both sides openly expressing their views.

Additionally, LSG mentor Zaheer Khan has also criticized the situation, claiming that the pitch at their home ground favors visiting teams. PBKS bowling coach Trevor Gonsalves and CSK head coach Stephen Fleming have similarly joined the chorus of discontent.

In response to the ongoing pitch controversy, GT COO Colonel Arvinder Singh addressed the issue in an interview with TimesofIndia.com, urging rival franchises to familiarize themselves with the established rules and regulations in a forthright manner.

“The guidelines regarding this matter are unequivocal and have been consistent since the inception of the league. The rules are straightforward and apply equally to all teams. No franchise is entitled to demand a specific type of pitch,” he stated.

“The home advantage should arise from the fact that it is your home ground. You are expected to be more familiar with those conditions than any visiting team, as that is where you play the majority of your matches and practice. Therefore, if you seek a home advantage, you are justified in doing so.

“However, to claim that you require a home advantage because you want a particular type of pitch is not a valid argument,” he added.

Conversely, GT has been performing exceptionally well this season, with Shubman Gill's leadership skills coming to the forefront. Gujarat currently leads the IPL 2025 points table, boasting four victories and one loss.

The rules and regulations also back the GT COO's comments. According to the IPL Playing Conditions, as per ‘The Match’ regulations, section 1.11 states, “Ground authority is the entity responsible for the selection and preparation of the pitch and other functions relating to the hosting and management of the match, including any agents acting on their behalf (including but not limited to the curator or other ground staff).”
