Rohit Sharma, who captained India to their second T20 World Cup title in 2024, has been appointed as the captain of the ICC's T20I Team of the Year. The team includes four Indian players who contributed to the T20 World Cup victory last year: Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, and Arshdeep Singh.

The lineup also features one player each from Australia (Travis Head), England (Phil Salt), Pakistan (Babar Azam), Sri Lanka (Wanindu Hasaranga), and Afghanistan (Rashid Khan).

Notably, Virat Kohli, who was awarded Player of the Match in the T20 World Cup final against South Africa, has not been included in the XI.

The remaining two members of the team are Nicholas Pooran from the West Indies and Sikandar Raza from Zimbabwe.

Rohit Sharma, aged 37, had an impressive year, participating in 11 T20Is for India in 2024, amassing 378 runs, with a top score of 121 against Afghanistan. This year will be significant in his distinguished career, as he led India to their first T20 World Cup title in over ten years.

During the T20 World Cup, Rohit excelled, achieving three half-centuries, including a remarkable 92 against Australia in the Super Eight stage. Following the tournament victory, he announced his retirement from T20I cricket.

Hardik Pandya further solidified his reputation as the premier all-rounder in the T20 format, scoring 352 runs and claiming 16 wickets across 17 matches. His contributions were vital to India's T20 World Cup success, as he scored 144 runs and took 11 wickets throughout the tournament.

In the final against South Africa, he bowled the last over, finishing with impressive figures of 3/20.

How did Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh perform in 2024?

Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh had remarkable performances in 2024. Bumrah secured 15 wickets during the T20 World Cup 2024, achieving an astonishing average of 8.26. His consistent efforts were pivotal in keeping India competitive and maintaining their dominance in matches.

Additionally, Bumrah is a contender for the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy, awarded to the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year.

On the other hand, Arshdeep Singh, the left-arm fast bowler, claimed 36 wickets across 18 matches, boasting an impressive average of 13.50. In the T20 World Cup, he took 17 wickets in eight games, with his standout performance being against the co-hosts, USA, where he recorded figures of 4/9.

Arshdeep has recently emerged as India's leading wicket-taker in T20 cricket, surpassing Yuzvendra Chahal.
