Nitish Kumar Reddy expressed his joy at silencing his critics with his first Test century during the prestigious Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The 22-year-old demonstrated resilience while batting in the lower-middle order, scoring a century from the number 8 position, thereby once again aiding India's efforts in the ongoing Test series. Reddy was rapidly integrated into the Indian team following his impressive performances with both bat and ball in the 2024 IPL for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Although he made a strong impression during his debut T20I series against Bangladesh, questions remained regarding his capabilities in the longer format when he was selected for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

He was given an opportunity to play in India's lineup for the first Test and showcased his determination with the bat in both innings, marking his entry into the Test arena. The team management placed their trust in him, retaining him in the playing XI throughout the series.

Reddy acknowledged that there were sceptics regarding his Test abilities prior to the series, but he is now pleased to have proven them incorrect.

"Some individuals questioned my potential, suggesting that a young player from the IPL would struggle in such a significant series," he remarked. "I aim to demonstrate my capabilities. I want everyone to understand that I am committed to giving my all for the Indian team," Reddy stated during the press conference following Day 4's play.

He emphasized that his success did not come overnight, as he has dedicated the past two to three years to honing his skills.

"For you, it may appear as though it has happened in just one or two months, but for me, it has been a journey of two to three years. I have diligently worked on my batting and bowling during that period," he concluded.

The 22-year-old player candidly acknowledged that he must continue to improve his bowling skills and conveyed his aspiration to assume a comprehensive all-rounder position within the Indian team.

"I am not yet satisfied with my bowling performance, and I aim to return to form in that area. I am eager to secure the all-rounder role in the near future. Reflecting on the past three years, particularly the last two, I recognize the effort I have dedicated to enhancing both my batting and bowling. Fitness is crucial for me as an all-rounder, and I have consistently challenged myself," he stated.
