Nitish Rana Criticized for KKR ‘Loyalty’ Comment as Venky Mysore’s Moment Steals the Show

A significant subplot of the IPL 2025 match between the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati was Nitish Rana's return to face his former team, providing him with a chance to demonstrate that they erred in not retaining him. However, Rana's performance fell short, as he was dismissed for a mere eight runs, prompting fans to remind him harshly of his previous comments regarding "loyalty."

Rana had dedicated seven seasons to KKR, even captaining the team in 2023 during the absence of regular captain Shreyas Iyer. His release from the franchise prior to the mega auction in November last year was a painful blow for both him and his family. In response, his wife, Saachi Marwah, took to social media to subtly criticize KKR, remarking, "Loyalty is very expensive; not everyone can afford it." Rana also made a statement by posting an Instagram story featuring himself in a pink shirt, captioned: “Royal-ty is pink!”

On Wednesday, after being dismissed by Moeen Ali for just eight runs off nine balls, Rana faced ridicule from fans on social media, who referenced his earlier "loyalty" statement. Additionally, KKR CEO Venky Mysore's reaction went viral, as he was seen clapping and smiling wittily from the stands following Rana's dismissal.

RR restricted to 151/9

The spin partnership of Varun Chakravarthy and Moeen proved to be highly effective, as their disciplined bowling performance limited Rajasthan to a modest total of 151/9. On a dry and challenging Barsapara pitch, where the ball did not come onto the bat easily, KKR's newly formed spin duo—necessitated by Sunil Narine's injury—emerged as a pivotal factor in the match. They dismantled the Royals' middle order, each claiming two wickets in consecutive overs immediately following the powerplay, thereby shifting the momentum in favor of KKR.

Chakravarthy completed his four overs with impressive figures of 2/17, while Moeen concluded with a commendable 2/23.
