Neymar has mutually agreed to terminate his contract with Al Hilal, a club in the Saudi Pro League, and has rejoined his former team, Santos, in Brazil. His time in Saudi Arabia was marred by injuries, resulting in only seven appearances and a single goal since his transfer in August 2023 for a fee of £77.6 million.

In addition to his club commitments, Neymar has been named one of Saudi Arabia's brand ambassadors for the 2034 World Cup, which led to a settlement payment to him ranging from £24.16 million to £56.37 million as part of the contract dissolution.

Reports indicate that Neymar's contract with Al Hilal was valued at £83.74 million annually, culminating in total earnings of £125.61 million over his 18-month tenure. His career trajectory has significantly declined since leaving Paris Saint-Germain, with limited playing time and noticeable weight gain.

In a video announcement, Neymar expressed, “Hello, everyone. It feels like I am returning to the past. I am here with my friends and family, who have supported me in articulating my thoughts. I cannot wait until tomorrow to share this news. My family and friends are already aware of my decision. I will be signing with Santos. I want to extend my gratitude to my fans worldwide who have long wished for this moment. It has been nearly 12 years since I departed for the most renowned club in the world, and it feels like just yesterday. My affection for the club and its supporters remains unchanged.”

He further stated, “It is essential for me to play again, and only a club like Santos can offer the affection I require to face the upcoming challenges in the years ahead. I hope all of you, regardless of your club allegiance, understand what I mean. I look forward to having your support as I embark on this new chapter in my life.”

Neymar's return to Santos marks a significant moment as he rejoins the club where he began his professional journey. During his initial tenure at Santos, he achieved notable successes, including winning the Copa do Brasil (2010), Campeonato Paulista (2010, 2011, 2012), Copa Libertadores (2011), and Recopa Sudamericana (2012), as well as finishing as a runner-up in the Campeonato Paulista in 2009.
