Neymar Jr is nearing his departure from Al Hilal following a series of persistent injuries that have hindered his tenure at the Saudi club since his arrival in August 2023. While Neymar was considered the second most significant signing by a Saudi club after Cristiano Ronaldo, he has not been able to replicate the same level of influence in the country as the five-time Ballon d'Or recipient. Just two months after joining the team in Riyadh, he suffered a ruptured cruciate ligament in his left knee while representing Brazil in a 2026 World Cup qualifier, which sidelined him for an entire year.

Subsequently, he encountered multiple hamstring and knee injuries as he attempted to return to the field for Al Hilal.

Reports indicate that the 32-year-old is poised to return to his childhood club, as Al Hilal has opted not to register him for the second half of the Saudi Pro League season.

As per an ESPN report, Neymar and Al Hilal are on the verge of mutually terminating his contract, although final negotiations are still underway. The two parties are expected to convene early this week in hopes of finalizing an agreement. Should they succeed, Neymar will sign a six-month contract with Santos, which includes an option for a one-year extension.

Neymar, who holds the record for the most expensive transfer in football history after moving from Barcelona to PSG in 2017 for a fee of 220 million euros ($230 million), joined Al Hilal in August 2023.

Al Hilal's coach, Jorge Jesus, recently remarked, "He can no longer perform at the level we are accustomed to. Unfortunately, things have become challenging for him."

The 32-year-old has also candidly acknowledged that the 2026 World Cup will be his final appearance, expressing his desire to perform at his best, although the current circumstances at Al Hilal are not conducive to that goal.

"I understand this will be my last World Cup, my final opportunity, and I will do everything possible to participate," the attacker, who has not represented Brazil in over a year, stated in a recent interview with CNN.
