New Year, New Dreams: Left Field's Wish List for 2025

New Year, New Dreams: Left Field's Wish List for 2025

5 hours ago | 5 Views

Setting aside the concerns and generational shifts that have overshadowed the 2024-25 BGT, let us promptly transition into the new year with our optimism calibrated to a state of at least moderate positivity. Indian sports provided an enjoyable experience for fans in 2024, culminating in the understated yet significant achievement of Koneru Humpy, who secured her second world rapid title with remarkable ease. Happy New Year to all.

However, one must concede that the most tedious aspect of New Year's celebrations is the tradition of resolutions. Why commit to resoluteness when it is inevitable that challenges—be they carrom balls, curve balls, doosras, tomahawks, or unexpected collapses—will inevitably arise, potentially derailing even the most noble intentions?

On the other hand, dreaming is an activity that sports enthusiasts engage in as effortlessly as they breathe.

Left Field takes the act of dreaming quite seriously and, with each new year, diligently compiles its dream cabinet filled with aspirations. While these wishes have yet to materialize, there is always hope for a first occurrence.

Presenting the Left Field 2025 Wish List:

1. The BCCI initiates a post-BGT re-bonding session for the nation’s star players, during which the following mandatory directives are established:

# Players are required to return from international tours to their domestic teams (excluding IPL), as their contract status and team selection will be contingent upon participation in first-class/domestic matches rather than social media presence or brand value.

# Tours will include mandatory warm-up matches before and between Test matches, and these will not be classified as optional.

# Players of significant experience and stature will be required to sign a contract before each tour, prohibiting mid-tour retirements for reasons other than serious injuries. On-site sports-related counselling will be available for players to address any issues with coaches, captains, or teammates that may lead to discontent.

# It will be the responsibility of team management and the captain to ensure that senior players are always accompanied when changing ends during fielding.
