Neeraj Chopra, a two-time Olympic medalist, has recently tied the knot with Himani Mor, a former tennis player and graduate in sports management. On Sunday, the 27-year-old athlete shared images from his picturesque mountain wedding on social media. The event was a private affair, attended solely by their close family members.

Surendra Chopra, Neeraj's uncle, disclosed that the gold medalist from the Tokyo Olympics first met Himani in the United States. Afterwards, Neeraj sought his family's approval, and upon receiving their consent, he chose to marry Himani.

Neeraj and Himani are both accomplished athletes who were previously acquainted, having met in the United States. Neeraj was certain about his desire to spend his life with Himani. After obtaining consent from their families, he proceeded with the decision to marry her, as reported by Surendra Chopra to Aaj Tak.

"This union is a blend of love and an arranged marriage. Neeraj and Himani sought their parents' approval before moving forward," he further explained.

Additionally, Neeraj Chopra's uncle mentioned that he had arranged a three-day wedding celebration from January 14 to 16 in Himachal Pradesh. Interestingly, even the officiating priest was unaware of Neeraj Chopra's identity.

'Against dowry'

Neeraj Chopra, who secured a silver medal at the Paris Olympics 2024, chose not to accept any dowry in his marriage. Instead, his family received a nominal sum of INR 1 as a traditional 'shotgun.'

"We have consistently opposed the practice of dowry. Our family does not endorse the idea of dowry. We merely accepted one rupee as 'shagun'," stated Neeraj Chopra's uncle.

Before the wedding, Himani visited Neeraj Chopra's village, where she spent 14 hours as part of the pre-marriage customs.

"Neeraj has a series of competitions scheduled over the next two years. If he had delayed the marriage, it would have been postponed for two years. There were valid reasons for them to marry at this time. The event was not extravagant; it was a family gathering with only 65-70 attendees, comprising members from both families," explained Surendra Chopra.

"It was a destination wedding held in Himachal Pradesh. We enjoyed three days in the mountains, filled with joy. Neeraj is an ordinary individual. It was a wonderful opportunity for quality family time," he added.
