On May 24, Bengaluru will host the Neeraj Chopra Classic Javelin Throw competition, where Indian athletics enthusiasts will be able to witness some of the world's best athletes compete. However, because of other obligations, the current Olympic winner Arshad Nadeem declined the invitation. Nadeem recently told the Pakistani media that he would be unable to compete in Neeraj Chopra's event because he was preparing for the Asian Athletics Championship. The competition will take place between May 27 and May 31, and according to Nadeem, he is scheduled to depart for South Korea on May 22.
Following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, Arshad made his choice. The Resistance Front, which is a branch of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility for the attack, according to sources.
The invitation that Neeraj offered also sparked debate, and the gold medalist from the Tokyo Olympics addressed the matter on social media. The invitation was sent prior to the terrorist incident in Pahalgam, and he stated that he had been subjected to abuse, which had also been targeted against his family.
"I am generally a man of few words, but that doesn't mean I will be silent about what I believe to be wrong," he stated. Especially when it comes to doubting my patriotism, the respect and honor of my family, and my love for our nation."
“The majority of the conversation surrounding my choice to invite Arshad Nadeem to participate in the Neeraj Chopra Classic has been full of hate and insults. They haven't excluded my family from it either. As an athlete, I simply invited Arshad. There was nothing more and nothing less. The goal of the NC Classic was to make India the center of top-notch athletic competitions and attract the best athletes to our nation. Two days before the terrorist attacks at Pahalgam, on Monday, invitations were sent to every athlete.
"Considering all that has transpired in the previous 48 hours, it was impossible for Arshad to be there at the NC Classic. My country and its interests will always come first. To those who are experiencing the loss of their loved ones, I send my condolences and prayers.
