Nasser Hussain Warns India Before Champions Trophy Final: ‘They May Lose If…’

India will face New Zealand for the second time in the 2025 Champions Trophy. While the initial match was largely inconsequential, the upcoming encounter will determine the championship winner. Both teams have been prominent contenders for major cricket titles over the past decade, and former England captain Nasser Hussain has remarked that New Zealand should not be underestimated.
India has the opportunity to secure a second ICC title within a year, following their victory over South Africa in the T20 World Cup final last year. South Africa, still striving to overcome their reputation as "chokers" in significant tournaments, lost that match despite needing only 30 runs from the last five overs. Hussain noted that New Zealand is likely to present a more formidable challenge in similar circumstances.
“They will not falter; they won't choke. During a dinner with [former Australia captain] Aaron Finch, he articulated it well by stating that New Zealand is not a team that defeats itself. This means they consistently show up and deliver a strong performance," Hussain commented on Sky Sports.
"Throughout the New Zealand squad, there are numerous resilient cricketers who approach every match with maximum effort—this is why they consistently reach the semi-finals and finals."
New Zealand's incredible run in Pakistan
New Zealand has displayed exceptional performance throughout their tour of Pakistan. They faced minimal resistance from both South Africa and Pakistan during the tri-series held in the latter country prior to the Champions Trophy. In the tournament itself, they secured victories in both group matches played in Pakistan, although they suffered a defeat against India by 44 runs in Dubai. Subsequently, they returned to Pakistan and triumphed over South Africa by 50 runs in the semi-final.
“They possess an excellent blend of experienced veterans who have consistently performed over the years, such as Kane Williamson, regarded as one of the all-time greats, alongside emerging talents like Rachin Ravindra. While it is possible for New Zealand to lose, should that occur, it will be due to India's superior performance,” stated Hussain.
