For the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, the Namibia U-19 cricket team has named Faf du Plessis as their captain. This decision has caused confusion among many cricket enthusiasts, as it coincides with the name of the renowned South African cricketer, Faf du Plessis.
The 17-year-old Du Plessis is a right-handed batsman and a skilled leg-break bowler. He has previously represented Namibia U-19 in three matches and will now lead the team in the Division 1 Qualifiers.

In the Division 1 Qualifiers, the Namibia U-19 team is set to compete against Kenya, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, and Uganda. Their opening match is scheduled against Nigeria on March 28.
The matches will be held in Lagos, Nigeria. Following their encounter with the host nation, Namibia will play against Sierra Leone at the University of Lagos Cricket Oval. The team that emerges victorious in the Division 1 Qualifiers will earn the opportunity to represent Africa at the 2026 U-19 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by Zimbabwe and Namibia. While Zimbabwe has secured direct entry as the host nation, Namibia must navigate through a qualification tournament.
This tournament marks the 16th edition of the U-19 World Cup, with Australia entering as the reigning champions. A total of 16 teams will be divided into four groups, with the top three teams from each group advancing to the Super Six stage. Additionally, the fourth-placed teams from Groups A and D will compete against each other, while the fourth-placed teams from Groups B and C will face off in placement matches.
In the Super Six stage, the top three teams from Groups A and D will form one group, while the top three teams from Groups B and C will create another. The leading two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals.
Aside from Zimbabwe, Australia qualifies as the defending champion. Other direct qualifiers include Bangladesh, England, India, Ireland, Pakistan, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, South Africa, and the West Indies. The remaining spots will be filled by the winners of regional qualification tournaments.
