Mushfiqur Rahim, the seasoned wicketkeeper-batter from Bangladesh, declared his retirement from One Day Internationals (ODIs) on Wednesday. This announcement followed closely after Bangladesh's departure from the Champions Trophy, where Rahim was a member of the team. The national side concluded the tournament without securing a victory in their group, suffering two losses in three matches, with their final encounter against Pakistan being abandoned due to rain in Rawalpindi.

Rahim made his retirement announcement via his official Facebook page, expressing that although Bangladesh did not achieve significant success in international competitions, he consistently demonstrated “100%” dedication to the team.

“I am announcing my retirement from the ODI format as of today,” Rahim stated.

"Alhamdulillah for everything. While our accomplishments on the global stage may have been limited, one thing remains clear: every time I took the field for my country, I committed myself fully with dedication and integrity.

“The past few weeks have posed considerable challenges for me, leading me to understand that this is my destiny. Allah states in the Quran: “Wa tu’izzu man tasha’ wa tu’zhilu man tasha’” - “And He honours whom He wills, and He disgraces whom He wills.” (3:26).”

In his statement, Rahim also expressed gratitude towards his friends and family.

“Lastly, I would like to deeply thank my family, friends and my fans for whom I have played cricket for the last 19 years,” wrote the Bangladesh veteran.
