Mumbai Indians on Edge: Bumrah's Fitness Sparks IPL 2025 Concerns
4 days ago | 5 Views
It is now confirmed that Jasprit Bumrah will not participate in the Mumbai Indians' IPL 2025 campaign, at least for the initial matches. This announcement was made by head coach Mahela Jayawardene, who indicated that the team's leading fast bowler will require additional time before he is deemed match-ready. For the Mumbai Indians, who have struggled to secure a victory in their opening match since IPL 2012, Bumrah's absence poses a significant challenge, especially as they prepare to face the Chennai Super Kings this Sunday. Nevertheless, there remains a glimmer of hope that Bumrah will regain fitness by the first week of April, allowing him to return to competitive cricket for the first time since January.
However, Michael Clarke has expressed concerns that Bumrah's absence, even if only for the early games, could severely impact MI's prospects in the IPL. The Mumbai Indians, the most successful franchise in IPL history, have not claimed the title since 2020, marking a notable decline for a team that won the championship every other year from 2019 to 2020. For a turnaround to occur, Bumrah's performance is crucial, yet Clarke remains skeptical about his immediate impact, suggesting that it may take time for the returning bowler to reach his peak form.
"I have concerns about Bumrah. He hasn't played any cricket and won't be starting the tournament, so it's unlikely he will be at his best in the first match. While I recognize his exceptional talent and ability to take five wickets, I believe he will improve as the tournament progresses. However, without Bumrah, Mumbai will face significant difficulties," Clarke remarked on the Beyond23 Cricket Podcast.
Michael Clarke puts his faith on Pat Cummins and Sunrisers Hyderabad
Michael Clarke expresses his confidence in Pat Cummins and the Sunrisers Hyderabad. He firmly supports Cummins' team, believing they are poised to achieve what they narrowly missed last year – securing the championship title. Cummins' Sunrisers Hyderabad was undoubtedly one of the top contenders in the tournament, with many considering them the best due to their aggressive style of play. However, they fell short in the final, where KKR claimed the trophy. This year, Clarke is optimistic that the Orange Army will build on their momentum from 2024 and ultimately succeed.
"I may be a bit biased in my choice. If I were to select a player based on favoritism, I would undoubtedly choose Pat Cummins and the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Go the Aussies! However, I believe the bowling department is crucial for the Sunrisers. Their batting lineup is undoubtedly strong enough to clinch the tournament. As a captain, Pat has gained valuable experience, which will enhance his leadership this year. The key issue lies in their bowling; they cannot afford injuries to their fast bowlers. Their performance in the death overs is vital, and Cummins plays a significant role in that," Clarke emphasized.
