Aakash Chopra, the former Indian opener, provided his insights regarding the Mumbai Indians' roster for the forthcoming season of the Indian Premier League. The five-time champions experienced a disappointing previous season, where the spotlight largely fell on Hardik Pandya's return and his ascension to the captaincy, overshadowing the team's performance. They concluded the season at the bottom of the points table but have retained their core players for the 2025 season and enhanced their squad through significant acquisitions in the mega auction, including Trent Boult, Deepak Chahar, and Will Jacks.

While they parted ways with Ishan Kishan and Tim David from their formidable batting lineup, the team still boasts one of the most well-rounded squads in the league. The presence of Indian stars such as Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, and Hardik Pandya in the batting order is a considerable advantage that few teams can match.

Chopra asserted that the Mumbai Indians possess the finest starting XI in the league this season, featuring match-winners in every position.

"Their strength lies in the fact that it is challenging to create a better XI or XII than this. They have all the top players. Starting with Rohit Sharma, followed by Ryan Rickelton and Will Jacks—it's advantageous if you choose to include both—along with Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, and Hardik Pandya. Additionally, Naman Dhir will still be available. The depth of the squad is remarkable," Chopra remarked on his YouTube channel.

The former cricketer, now a commentator, provided an in-depth analysis of Mumbai's bowling lineup, which features three effective pace bowlers: Deepak Chahar, Trent Boult, and Jasprit Bumrah.

"Examining their bowling options, Deepak Chahar, Trent Boult, and Jasprit Bumrah form an exceptional trio for the Wankhede pitch, where the ball exhibits movement and wickets tend to fall during the powerplay. Nevertheless, the Mumbai Indians are likely to be without their leading pace bowler, Bumrah, for the opening matches of the league. Although he has been gradually increasing his training intensity through net sessions and match simulations, he has not yet received a fitness clearance from the NCA.
