Kolkata: Mohun Bagan Super Giant has achieved their first ISL double by clinching the under-21 Reliance Foundation Development League title, thanks to Pasang Dorjee Tamang's hat-trick that led them to a 3-0 victory over Manipur's Classic FA in Mumbai on Monday. The two teams had previously drawn 0-0 during the group stage.
Tamang initiated the scoring in the eighth minute with a precise shot from the edge of the box that found the top right corner. He extended the lead to 2-0 in the 22nd minute by capitalizing on a defensive mistake. The midfielder completed his hat-trick in the 52nd minute by seizing a loose ball in midfield.
In addition, Mohun Bagan has also secured the under-15 championship for the Kolkata region in the competition organized by Reliance Foundation Youth Sports.
In the third-place play-off held before the final at Reliance Corporate Park, FC Goa triumphed over Jamshedpur FC with a 1-0 scoreline, courtesy of Saish Gaunkar's goal in the 15th minute.
Lawmzuala of Jamshedpur FC earned the Golden Boot with a total of 16 goals, while the Golden Glove award was presented to Priyansh Dubey of Mohun Bagan for achieving 10 clean sheets. Mohammed Arbash from Classic FA was named the best player and received the Golden Ball. The semi-finalists are set to compete in the Premier League Next Generation Cup.
Similar to their performance in the ISL this season, Mohun Bagan reached the final by defeating Jamshedpur FC. However, unlike the senior team, which required a late goal to secure their victory, the youth team dominated the match with a 5-1 win after trailing from the 13th minute. Classic FA, where Renedy Singh served as head coach before transitioning to an assistant role at Bengaluru FC, also had a strong journey to the final, overcoming FC Goa with a 3-0 victory. They were the only academy team to reach this stage.
Under the guidance of head coach Chandam Chtrasen Singh, Classic FA finished joint-top with Jamshedpur FC in the Rest of India group, securing a spot in the zonal qualifiers. In a group that included Jamshedpur FC, NorthEast United, Shillong Lajong, and Aizawl FC, they finished in second place.
This was the fourth edition of the competition, where clubs from nine regions across the country, including youth teams from ISL sides and those from different tiers of the I-League, participated along with independent academy sides nominated by the state association.
