Mohammed Shami Declares Himself Ready for Champions Trophy: 'All Set to Take on the World'

Veteran Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami may have missed out on the Test squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, but he's keen to get back into the international scene for the upcoming Champions Trophy starting February 19.
The selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, is expected to reveal India's squad for the Champions Trophy by January 12, which is the final date for all teams to submit their provisional rosters for the ICC tournament.
Before the announcement, Shami, who was left out of the Australia tour due to ongoing injury issues despite returning to domestic cricket in all formats, posted a video of his training session. He also sent a strong message to the selectors with his caption: “Precision, Pace, and Passion, All Set to Take on the World!”
Jasprit Bumrah's absence is raising concerns for the Champions Trophy
India's fast bowler picked up an injury on Day 2 of the Sydney Test against Australia and was quickly sent for scans. He ended up not playing due to back spasms.
Now, three days after the match at the SCG, where Australia secured the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the first time in a decade, the BCCI's medical team still hasn't provided an official update on the severity of Bumrah's injury.
If it's a grade 1 injury, he’ll need at least two to three weeks of rehab before he can get back on the field. A grade 2 injury could take up to six weeks, while a grade 3 injury, which is the most serious, might require at least three months of rest and rehab.
According to a PTI report, Bumrah is likely to sit out the upcoming ODI series at home against England. If his condition worsens, he might struggle to be fit in time for the Champions Trophy.
This makes Shami's selection for the Champions Trophy crucial for the team management. However, the selectors will probably want to see how the senior bowler performs in the match against England before making any final decisions.
The ICC allows teams to adjust their provisional squads until February 13.
