The Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) has been instructed to remove Mohammed Azharuddin's name from the North Pavilion Stand at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad following allegations of bias against the former Indian captain. This directive was issued by Justice V Eswaraiah, the Ethics Officer and Ombudsman of the HCA, on Saturday.

As reported by Cricbuzz, the Ombudsman took action based on a petition from the Lords Cricket Club, which highlighted a clear conflict of interest. It was noted that Azharuddin, who previously served as the HCA president, made decisions that favored himself during his tenure.

Justice V Eswaraiah stated in his 25-page ruling, "The absence of ratification or modification of the decision by the General Body further substantiates the case against Respondent No. 1 (Azharuddin), as he has overstepped his authority for personal gain. Consequently, a clear conflict of interest has been established."

Additionally, the HCA has been directed to cease the printing of tickets bearing Azharuddin's name for the remainder of the ongoing IPL 2025 season. Hyderabad is set to host five more matches, including three additional home games for the Sunrisers, along with Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator.

Furthermore, the petitioner has requested that the Azharuddin stand be renamed the VVS Laxman Pavilion "for all practical purposes, including but not limited to signage and ticket printing, and to issue any orders deemed appropriate in light of the circumstances and in the interest of justice."

The report also noted that it was argued that Azharuddin's actions were illegal and arbitrary, and that there was no decision from the General Body or Apex Council to officially designate the "Mohammed Azharuddin Stand" above the name of the "VVS Laxman Pavilion."
