14 days ago | 5 Views
Virat Kohli hit a match-winning four to secure his 51st ODI century, leading India to a memorable win over Pakistan in their Group A Champions Trophy 2025 match in Dubai. This loss pushed Pakistan close to elimination, and they were officially knocked out when New Zealand defeated Bangladesh by five wickets on Monday.
Kohli's stellar performance made him the third player to surpass 14,000 runs in ODIs. After the game, former Pakistan bowler Mohammad Amir praised Kohli's influence, calling him a ‘complete package’ and drawing comparisons to football legends Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
The Enduring Appeal of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi
Amir chatted with SportsTak and shared his thoughts on why people are fans of Ronaldo and Messi. He pointed out, especially with Ronaldo, that you can see his lifestyle, charity efforts, work ethic, and fitness level. He’s the whole package. Similarly, he mentioned Virat Kohli as another complete package. Kohli is a role model for many, even in Pakistan, and it doesn’t matter where someone is from—whether it’s Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, or England—role models can come from anywhere. For this generation, Kohli is a true inspiration.
He encouraged all the young aspiring cricketers and batters to take a page out of Kohli's book.
In the match, India chased down 242 runs, finishing at 244/4 in just 42.3 overs, with Kohli scoring an impressive 100* off 111 balls to seal the win. Shreyas Iyer also contributed with a solid 56 off 67 balls. On the other side, Saud Shakeel’s half-century (62) helped Pakistan reach 241 in 49.4 overs. Kuldeep Yadav was on fire for India, taking three wickets, while Hardik Pandya grabbed two.
Pandya proved to be the game-changer by dismissing Pakistan’s top batter, Babar Azam, for 23, and also getting Shakeel out. Yadav’s wrist spin kept the Pakistani batters guessing, and he was spot on with his deliveries.
The match was also surrounded by some controversy since India didn’t travel to Pakistan for the tournament due to political issues. The ICC agreed to India’s request for a neutral venue, so all their games are being held in Dubai.
