In spite of the ongoing diplomatic strains between India and Pakistan, Mohammad Amir recently made an unexpected announcement, indicating that he is on the verge of participating in the IPL next year. The former Pakistan fast bowler has now issued another public declaration concerning the Indian Premier League, asserting that he would prefer the IPL over his nation's leading T20 franchise league if given the chance.

‘I’ll definitely play in the IPL': Mohammad Amier

The IPL 2025 and PSL 2025 seasons are currently in progress, with Amir playing for the Quetta Gladiators. In a recent interview with Geo News, he was asked to choose between the PSL and IPL in the event of a scheduling conflict, to which he provided a candid reply.

'To be honest, if the opportunity arises, I will certainly participate in the IPL. I am stating this openly. However, if I do not have that chance, I will compete in the PSL. By next year, I anticipate having the opportunity to play in the IPL, and if that opportunity presents itself, I would certainly take it,' he expressed. 'I do not foresee a clash between the IPL and PSL next year.

This year, the ICC Champions Trophy was a significant event. If I am selected for the PSL first, I cannot withdraw, as it would result in a ban from the tournament. Conversely, if I am chosen for the IPL first, I cannot withdraw from that league either. Ultimately, it hinges on which league I am selected for first. If the IPL auction occurs first and I am chosen, I will not participate in the PSL.

Conversely, if the PSL draft occurs first and I am selected, I will not be able to withdraw from that tournament,' he elaborated. Despite his optimistic perspective, Amir's assertions appear highly improbable, particularly in light of the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, which resulted in the deaths of over 26 Indians. BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla has also stated that there is no possibility of bilateral series resuming between the two nations following the attack, indicating that the Indian cricket board is likely to continue its policy of excluding Pakistani players from the IPL.
