Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc transitioned from the cricket pitch to the commentary booth during the women’s Ashes series, providing commentary while his wife, Alyssa Healy, participated in the matches. Notably, Healy was also on-air throughout the Border-Gavaskar Trophy over the preceding two months, during which Starc played a pivotal role in Australia’s 3-1 victory against India.

Starc’s commentary brought a blend of insightful analysis and humour, particularly evident when he commented on Healy’s dismissal in the second ODI, where she was caught behind off the bowling of Lauren Bell for 29 runs.

This opportunity allowed Starc to respond to Healy’s playful critiques regarding his golf abilities made during her coverage of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Before his commentary debut, Starc had indicated his intention to provide a “right of reply” to her remarks, and he successfully infused his analysis with both wit and charm.

In the ninth over of the first innings, Healy’s promising innings came to an unexpected halt as Lauren Bell bowled a well-executed delivery that swung late. This movement resulted in an outside edge from Healy’s bat, leading to her dismissal for a brisk 29 runs off just 19 balls, which included six elegant boundaries. Her early exit prompted Australia to reassess its strategy following this initial setback.

Starc's humour was not directed solely at Healy; he also took a lighthearted jab at England's Test captain, Ben Stokes. 

In discussing England's assertion of a "moral victory" following the 2-2 draw in the men's Ashes series of 2023, Starc playfully remarked on the drawn women's Ashes, inquiring, "Yes, but who achieved a moral victory?" 

In the second women's ODI, Australia faced a challenging situation, being bowled out for a mere 180 runs. However, they delivered an impressive bowling performance, securing a narrow 21-run victory by dismissing England for 159 runs in 48.1 overs, with Kim Garth achieving outstanding bowling figures of 3 wickets for 37 runs in her 10 overs.
