In a match that showcased every possible twist, a tense Super Over was required to determine the winner between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals, culminating in the first tied game of IPL 2025. Tristan Stubbs sealed a dramatic victory for DC by hitting a six, marking their fifth win in six matches and propelling them to the top of the points table, fueled by their current momentum.
Mitchell Starc's exceptional final over, which allowed only eight runs when nine were needed, brought the match to a Super Over. Starc took the ball again for DC, facing Shimron Hetmyer and Riyan Parag, with Hetmyer continuing his innings after remaining not out during the chase.
Starc limited the Royals to just 11 runs, with both batters falling victim to run-outs. Parag was the first to go, caught off guard during a miscommunication that allowed KL Rahul to make an easy throw to Starc, who removed the bails. Yashasvi Jaiswal then failed to complete a second run due to the short ground dimensions, resulting in a swift throw from Jake Fraser-McGurk at deep mid-wicket that caught him out.
In pursuit of 12 runs for victory, Delhi sent KL Rahul and Stubbs to face Sandeep Sharma. The over began with excitement as a wayward throw from Jaiswal at deep mid-wicket allowed Rahul to evade a run-out. Rahul then skillfully hit a slower ball for four runs and followed it with a single. With five runs needed from three balls, Stubbs remained unfazed; he quickly recognized the length and sent Sandeep's delivery soaring over mid-wicket, clinching the match with two balls to spare.

The Royals faced a harsh conclusion despite appearing to be in control for significant portions of the chase. Jaiswal's steady innings of 51 provided a solid foundation, while Nitish Ranas rapid 51 off 28 balls brought RR closer to triumph. However, Starc's exceptional performance in the final overs, skillfully combining yorkers with varied angles, thwarted their efforts.
Earlier, Delhi set a total of 188/5, thanks to a reliable contribution from Abhishek Porel, who scored 49. This was complemented by a late surge from Tristan Stubbs, who finished with 34 runs off 18 balls, and captain Axar Patel, who added 34 runs off just 14 deliveries.
This match elevated the excitement in a season that has already featured numerous thrilling last-over finishes.
