Mitchell Santner Issues Challenge Ahead of Champions Trophy Final: "We've Faced India Before"

New Zealand is set to confront India once more in the 2025 Champions Trophy. Unlike their previous encounter, which was largely inconsequential, this match will determine the championship title. The Kiwis exhibited remarkable dominance in their matches in Pakistan and were arguably the team that exerted the most pressure on Rohit Sharma's squad during the games held in Dubai. New Zealand's captain, Mitchell Santner, expressed that they are drawing inspiration from their earlier performance.

"Competing in Dubai and applying pressure on India instilled confidence in us. We learned what strategies were effective and which were not. Our bowlers performed admirably, taking crucial wickets early on. Winning the toss would also be advantageous," Santner remarked to reporters following New Zealand's 50-run victory over South Africa in the semi-final.

In their last group match on March 2 in Dubai, India triumphed over New Zealand by 44 runs. "It feels great to reach the final. We faced a formidable opponent. We have previously competed against India and look forward to the challenge once more," he added.

'Williamson keeps doing it'

New Zealand received a significant boost as their esteemed batsman Kane Williamson scored 81 runs against India in that match. He subsequently delivered an impressive performance, amassing 102 runs off 94 balls against South Africa in the semi-final. His partnership of 164 runs for the second wicket with Rachin Ravindra, achieved in just 154 balls, was pivotal to New Zealand's commanding presence in Lahore. Additionally, Ravindra showcased his exceptional form by scoring 108 runs off 101 balls and claiming a wicket against South Africa.

"Williamson continues to excel. That partnership was crucial; there may have been moments of frustration, but they shifted gears effectively and propelled us to a total of 360. In hindsight, 320 might not have sufficed," remarked Santner.
