The 2025 Wisden Schools Cricketer of the Year, an honor previously given to players like Jos Buttler and Jonny Bairstow, was given to 18-year-old Aryaman Varma earlier this week. This year, the talented leg-spinner captained Eton College and shattered records by taking 51 wickets. But one of his greatest ambitions is to reject a man who requires no introduction to the cricketing community: Virat Kohli.

“This might be a very boring answer,” Varma informed TimesofIndia.com, “but it’s Virat Kohli, the king. Merely contemplating it gives me the chills. However, I'm certain that if I were to rescue him, tears would be rolling down my face and cheeks.

This feeling is rooted in dedication, not just in respect. "My entire family admires Virat Kohli. We adore him, in my opinion. With the personality he possesses, the entertainment he offers, and the talent he displays, it's something I've never seen before and don't believe I'll ever see again.

Varma is moving closer to realizing the dream, even though many teenagers worship celebrities from afar.

Over During the past three years, he has been a net bowler with the Delhi Capitals, sharing the nets and notes with India's top wrist-spinner, Kuldeep Yadav. Varma believes that his course has been most influenced by the mentorship.

"I've only received one bit of guidance from Kuldeep bhai. According to the youngster, he has advised me that at my age, I should simply concentrate on playing matches. He claims that the more games I play, the better I will be.

Varma has used Kuldeep's advice as a guiding principle as he balances his ambitions in the IPL and elsewhere with cricket in England. Varma has maintained his passion for cricket, having lived in Mumbai for a few years before moving to London.

The adolescent's goals are still quite apparent: to compete in international cricket, to bowl in the IPL, and to one day capture the wicket of his idol. "Perhaps someday, maybe while bowling against RCB, his biggest dream would come true when he gets his wicket," he stated.
