Mayank Yadav’s Fitness Update Brings Hope for LSG, But IPL 2025 Start Still Uncertain

On Monday morning, the Lucknow Super Giants received encouraging news regarding the anticipated return of fast bowler Mayank Yadav. However, it appears that he may not be ready to participate at the start of the 2025 IPL season, which commences for LSG against the Delhi Capitals on March 24 in Vizag.

As reported by MyKhel, Mayank has resumed bowling following a significant recovery from his thigh injury. The report suggests that he is expected to return to the IPL by mid-April, potentially making his comeback in the match against the Chennai Super Kings at the Ekana Stadium.

"Mayank has already begun bowling and is looking promising for a return to the IPL in a few weeks," stated a source close to the player.

The source further mentioned that LSG had requested for Mayank's rehabilitation to be monitored at the NCA, but this request was declined, as he is now a contracted player with the BCCI.

Mayank made his IPL debut last year, participating in only four matches where he took seven wickets at an average of 12.14 before an injury curtailed his season. His performance was impressive enough to earn him a call-up from the BCCI, leading to his debut in the home series against Bangladesh in October, where he played all three matches and secured four wickets at an economy rate of 6.91.

LSG is still facing challenges

Although the 18th season of the IPL has not yet commenced, preparations have not started on a positive note. In addition to Mayank, LSG is awaiting clearance from the NCA for two other Indian bowlers, Mohsin Khan and Avesh Khan, which further complicates their pace bowling situation for IPL 2025. Additionally, Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has confirmed that he will only be available as a batsman this season due to a back injury.

Consequently, LSG may consider signing Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur, who was seen training with their camp on Sunday. Thakur had gone unsold during the mega-auction last November.
