Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) ascended to the pinnacle of the IPL 2025 points table following a decisive 50-run victory over their long-standing rivals, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday. The match was rife with tension; after the first innings, it appeared that CSK had the upper hand, but the team, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, faltered during their pursuit of runs. Additionally, fans were treated to a performance by MS Dhoni, who batted at number nine for CSK, showcasing his skills with three fours and two sixes while remaining not out.

The excitement extended beyond the field, as the commentary booth also experienced its own moments of drama, featuring former CSK player Matthew Hayden alongside another commentator.

Commentary box drama

RCB faced significant challenges from the CSK bowlers during the first innings, resulting in the loss of wickets at a rapid pace. In the commentary box, Danny Morrison highlighted that Rajat Patidar's team has only achieved victory once in Chennai, with that win dating back to 2008.

“Is it accurate that RCB has only secured a win here once, all the way back in 2008? That seems unbelievable. Given their batting prowess over the years, that's quite remarkable. However, things are looking promising tonight,” he remarked.

As the match progressed, CSK's Khaleel Ahmed took the wicket of Jitesh Sharma, who attempted a shot to deep midwicket but was caught, departing for 12 runs off six balls. In response to Morrison's earlier commendation of RCB just before the dismissal, Hayden quipped, “Ohh! Just be quiet! They were performing so well.”

Hayden expressed his frustration with Morrison for seemingly jinxing Jitesh's rapid innings, which elicited laughter from Deep Dasgupta. The Indian commentator concurred with Hayden, suggesting that Morrison should refrain from praising CSK, as it might lead to a downturn in their performance.

In pursuit of 197 runs, CSK managed to score only 146/8 in their allotted 20 overs, despite Dhoni's unbeaten contribution of 30 runs from 16 balls. Josh Hazlewood was the standout performer for RCB, claiming three wickets. Earlier, Patidar's half-century (51 runs) helped RCB reach a total of 196/7 in 20 overs, while Noor Ahmad from CSK took three wickets.
