Mark Waugh Advocates for Beau Webster to Replace Marsh in Sydney Test Against India

After dropping the first Test in Perth, Australia quickly bounced back against India in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The home team leveled the series in Adelaide and nearly took the lead in Brisbane, but rain saved India at the Gabba, resulting in a draw on Day 5.
In the current fourth Test at the MCG, the Aussies are back in control, scoring 474 in their first innings. Steve Smith notched up his second century of the series, hitting 140 off 197 balls, which included 13 fours and three sixes. Meanwhile, 19-year-old debutant Sam Konstas kicked things off strong for the Aussies with a solid 60 off 65 balls. Usman Khawaja seemed to find his groove with his new opening partner, scoring a half-century with 57 off 121 balls. Marnus Labuschagne also contributed with a half-century, making 72 off 145 balls.
Konstas’ first match was surrounded by some drama, as he took Nathan McSweeney's spot on the team. McSweeney, who was also making his debut in the series, opened the batting with Khawaja, even though he usually plays in the middle order. This decision to bench McSweeney sparked some backlash from experts and former Australian players, who believed he should have been given more chances to prove himself. They also noted that Labuschagne and Khawaja had been struggling, but with Konstas joining the team, both players found their rhythm again, silencing the critics.
On the flip side, the Australian selectors have some concerns that they can't ignore. Veteran Mitchell Marsh seems to be having one of the roughest patches of his career. On Day 4, he only managed to score four runs off 13 balls. Overall, he’s racked up just 73 runs in seven innings, averaging 10.42, with his best score being 47 in Perth. His other scores include 6, 9, 5, 2, 4, and a duck. In Perth, he bowled 17 overs and ended up with figures of 3/77, but since then, he’s only bowled 13 overs without taking a wicket.
Is this the next Andrew Symonds?
Aussie cricket legend Mark Waugh was chatting on Fox Cricket and suggested that Beau Webster should be picked for the team, recommending that selectors swap him in for Marsh, who's 31. He mentioned, “There’s definitely going to be some discussion about it, based on the conditions and how the team is balanced. Beau Webster’s in the squad, and Marsh hasn’t scored any runs in this match.”
He added, “You could potentially have Alex Carey batting at six and Beau Webster at seven, which is another option.”
Waugh pointed out that Webster is a batting all-rounder who can bowl more overs, plus he’s capable of bowling both offspin and seam.
That'll be something to talk about based on what goes down in the next couple of days, especially regarding Mitchell Starc's fitness, he mentioned.
Webster is an all-rounder playing for Tasmania and the Melbourne Stars. He can bowl both right-arm medium pace and off-spin, plus he’s a solid right-handed batsman. People have drawn comparisons between him and former Test players Collin Miller and Andrew Symonds.
Even with a lot of criticism from past players, Marsh has found support from former Australia head coach Justin Langer. On Channel 7, Langer encouraged Pat Cummins and the team to keep the veteran all-rounder in the lineup for the Sydney Test, believing that dropping Marsh wouldn’t be a good move.
