India, currently enjoying an unbeaten streak in the Champions Trophy, aims to refine their performance against spin and may consider giving opportunities to their reserve players in their final group-stage match against New Zealand on Sunday.

While a win would guarantee them the top position in Group A, the standings are of limited consequence as a semi-final encounter with either Australia or South Africa is imminent.

Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar, during a discussion on Star Sports, recommended that India should explore their bench strength and did not emphasize the importance of the match outcome.

“Utilize players who haven't participated… Rishabh Pant, and Arshdeep (Singh) as well (should be given a chance). Put forth your best effort. If the game doesn't result in a win, that's acceptable. You will face South Africa,” stated Manjrekar on JioHotstar.

With a place in the semi-finals already secured, India may contemplate resting key players, including captain Rohit Sharma, who has been experiencing discomfort following the match against Pakistan. Additionally, Mohammed Shami, dealing with a calf issue, might be replaced by Arshdeep Singh. Varun Chakravarthy, who is recovering from an injury, could also be considered to take the place of Kuldeep Yadav.

India against spin

India's performances thus far have been impressive; however, their strategy against proficient spin bowlers indicates areas that require enhancement. Their cautious tactics against Bangladesh's Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Rishad Hossain, along with Pakistan's Abrar Ahmed, reveal a hesitance to embrace risks when facing slower bowlers.

The situation becomes more challenging against New Zealand, where Mitchell Santner and Michael Bracewell are ready to take advantage of the slow Dubai pitch.

Both Santner and Bracewell have demonstrated exceptional form, exerting tight control during the middle overs. Additionally, the part-time spin offered by Glenn Phillips further enriches New Zealand's bowling options, making this match a significant test for India's key batsmen. Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Shreyas Iyer must rise to the occasion against spin, particularly as the knockout stages approach on increasingly deteriorated pitches.

India's difficulties against spin were starkly highlighted during their 0-3 Test series loss to New Zealand late last year.

Conversely, India's spin attack has proven its worth despite initial doubts. The combination of Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav has effectively contained opposing batsmen, maintaining an economy rate below five runs per over. Their disciplined performance against Pakistan was especially commendable, as they successfully restricted Mohammad Rizwan and Saud Shakeel from accelerating during a pivotal moment.
