Former Indian cricketer Yograj Singh shared his thoughts on what he would do if appointed as the head coach of the Indian cricket team, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding and supporting senior players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. His remarks were made during a recent episode of the podcast 'Find a Way,' hosted by fellow former cricketer Taruwar Kohli.

The Indian team has faced criticism due to their disappointing performance in red-ball cricket, highlighted by an unprecedented 0-3 home defeat against New Zealand last November, followed by a loss in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in Australia. While they have maintained their dominance in white-ball cricket, securing a second consecutive ICC title with the Champions Trophy victory under Rohit's captaincy, their Test cricket performance remains a concern, particularly with an upcoming tour of England, where they have not won a series since 2007.

Yograj expressed his commitment to transforming the national team into an unbeatable force if given the chance to coach, insisting that he would rely on the current players. He underscored the necessity of supporting Kohli and Rohit, stating that he would ensure they participate in the Ranji Trophy and would provide them with unwavering backing.

"If I become the coach of the Indian team, I will utilize these same players to create a side that will be unbeatable for years to come. Who will help unlock their potential? People are quick to suggest dropping Rohit Sharma or Kohli, but why? They are simply experiencing a rough phase, and I want to assure them that I stand by them. I would encourage them to play in the Ranji Trophy, or I would have Rohit run 20 kilometers. No one else does that. These players are invaluable. You don’t discard them. I would act as a father figure to them. I have never treated Yuvraj differently from others, not even Dhoni. However, I acknowledge that some things are simply unacceptable," he stated.

Kohli, Rohit to play for India A?

A report from PTI on Tuesday indicated that several key members of the Indian Test team may be included in the India A squad for two four-day matches against the Lions. These matches are intended as preparation for the upcoming five-match Test series against England. The tour games are scheduled to commence on May 30, shortly after the conclusion of the IPL 2025 final. The selection of the team will depend on the availability of players before the playoffs begin, as all frontline players are currently under contract with their respective IPL franchises.
