Magnus Carlsen is often hailed as the greatest chess player in history. The Norwegian grandmaster has clinched the world championship title five times and currently shares the World Blitz title with Ian Nepomniachtchi from Russia. He’s also an eight-time World Blitz Champion and has held the top spot in the FIDE rankings since July 1, 2011, trailing only Garry Kasparov in terms of time spent as the highest-rated player ever. Carlsen's peak rating of 2882 stands as the highest recorded.

Recently, Carlsen was a guest on Joe Rogan’s podcast, where he discussed a range of topics, including the controversial Hans Niemann cheating scandal and his match preparation strategies. At just 34, he’s considered part of an older generation of chess grandmasters, while younger talents like D Gukesh, Alireza Firouzja, and Arjun Erigaisi are making waves. Despite this new wave, Carlsen has consistently outperformed his competitors.

During the podcast, Carlsen candidly explained what sets him apart from the younger GMs. He noted, “The difference between me and the younger players is that they might go to chess practice or do their homework, but they weren’t as immersed in the game as I was.”

“I think about chess all the time. Even while sitting here, I’m analyzing a game I played earlier. It’s always on my mind,” he shared.

He acknowledged that many strong players think similarly, but for him, chess is a constant presence in his life.

Carlsen also stirred the pot again during the podcast by addressing the Niemann cheating allegations, dismissing the infamous anal beads theory. He reiterated his position on Niemann and mentioned that more information would come out in a Netflix documentary set to release in April..
