As the ICC Champions Trophy approaches in less than three weeks, former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has re-emerged on screens, collaborating with Star Sports to promote the highly anticipated tournament.

In a promotional segment that reflects his "Captain Cool" persona, MS Dhoni is depicted in a chilly environment, embodying his nickname. He remarks, “When I was the captain, staying composed was straightforward. However, transitioning to a fan and watching the ICC Champions Trophy? That is a different challenge.”

Dhoni led the Indian team to victory in the ICC Champions Trophy held in England in 2013, with his strategic and innovative leadership being pivotal to India’s success in that tournament and their narrow win in the finals.

Although India faced a significant defeat in the 2017 final, they are eager to rectify their past mistakes as the tournament returns after a break. Dhoni cautioned that in this competition, even a single error can be detrimental.

‘Every match is a do or die…’

“Every match is a do-or-die situation…” Dhoni states in the advertisement, humorously experiencing snow blown onto him from a hose.

“The pressure has elevated the stakes considerably. Each match is critical,” he concludes, humorously referencing his history with referrals by calling for a DRS review, only to be humorously buried in snow by a truck labeled Dhoni Refrigeration System.

Despite the lighthearted nature of the advertisement, the Indian team faces significant pressure to deliver results in the UAE, particularly following the controversy surrounding the venue's relocation from its initial plan to be hosted entirely in Pakistan.

With captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli both under considerable scrutiny, they will seek to leverage this opportunity to demonstrate their continued relevance at the highest level of the sport as they compete in their preferred format.

India's campaign will commence with a match against Bangladesh, following a preparatory series consisting of three matches against England.
